Spark Broadband Assist







Spark Broadband Assist is a tool helping you to setup or resolve Yahoo Xtra email address e.g., set up your modem/wireless network and allows a Helpdesk Representative fix many problems using Remote Access while you're on the phone

Spark Broadband Assist  is compatible on the following operating systems, email clients and browsers:

  • Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 
  • Outlook Express 6, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Outlook 2003/2007 and Mac Mail
  • Internet Explorer 8-11, latest version of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox 
  • Apple MAC OSX, Mountain Lion 10.8, Maverick 10.9 and Yosemite 10.10

What you need to know

  • Broadband Assist is up to 20MB to download and will count towards your monthly data allowance
  • Tools menu that will direct you to the right place to change your plan, check your data and check your broadband speed
    Note: You will need login to MySpark to view your usage

How to get it

You will need to have your email address and phone number with you to register for Spark Broadband Assist.

  1. Go to Spark Broadband Assist
  2. Click Install
  3. Have a read of the End User License Agreement, tick the I understand and agree with these terms box
  4. Click Lets Go
  5. Enter your phone number & email address
  6. Click Go
  7. Click the notification bar to action the window
  8. Click Run
  9. Click View Downloads
  10. A Spark Broadband Assist Installation window will appear, click Finish to complete the installation
  11. Once the installation is completed, click Verify

How to use

Set up my wireless connection using Spark Broadband Assist?

Note: Setting up your wireless connection using Spark Broadband Assist will only work on Spark supplied Broadband modems such as Technicolor TG582nTechnicolor TG797n or Thomson TG585 (v7 and v8).

  1. Open Spark Broadband Assist
  2. Select Wi-FI
  3. Click Configure Wi-FI
  4. Enter a password you can remember
  5. Click Go
  6. You will be able to view the name of your Wi-Fi network and password.
Connecting your computer to your Wi-Fi connection
  1. Select Wi-Fi
  2. Click Connect to your home Wi-Fi network
  3. Enter your password to your Wi-Fi network
  4. Click Continue
  5. A screen will appear to confirm when you have successfully connected to your Wi-Fi network
Set up my Yahoo!Xtra account using Spark Broadband Assist?

Set up your Yahoo Xtra email account on Outlook Express 6, Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail, Outlook 2003/2007 or Mac Mail using Spark Broadband Assist.

  1. Open Spark Broadband Assist
  2. Select Email
  3. Click Setup email
  4. Enter a name for your email account e.g. Joe Bloggs
  5. Enter your Xtra email address
  6. Enter your Xtra email password
  7. Confirm your password
  8. Select your email client from the drop down menu
  9. Tick Set as Default Email Account if you would it to be
  10. Click Add Account
  11. View the details of your email account you've added
How do I update my Spark Broadband Assist registration details

You will need to make sure you are connected to the internet and have Spark Broadband Assist installed on your computer.

  1. Open Spark Broadband Assist
  2. Select Tools
  3. Click Update My Information
  4. Update your phone number or email address
  5. Click Go when you have finished
  6. You can view the changes you've made
How do I fix my connection using Spark Broadband Assist?

You will need to make sure you have Spark Broadband Assist installed on your computer.

  1. Open Spark Broadband Assist
  2. Spark Broadband Assist will detect you are not connected to the internet
  3. Click Continue
  4. Click Continue to begin
  5. Select how you connect to the internet
    • Wireless
    • Wired - using a cable
  6. Select your modem
  7. Step by step instructions will appear how you can check the cables on your modem and computer
  8. Once you have finished checking your setup
  9. Click Continue


How do I fix my wireless connection using a cable on $Spark Broadband Assist?

  1. Open Spark Broadband Assist
  2. Click Wireless 
  3. Click Existing wireless connection not working 
  4. Click Continue on the Testing your connection screen - permission to continue page
    Note: Click Continue if you get a User Account Control or UAC box appearing (particularly in Windows Vista) needing your permission to continue
  5. If you had previously set up your wireless using Broadband Assist, you may get a Scanning for SSID screen  
  6. Click Continue if you see Testing your connection - check cables screen 
  7. The configuration process may take up to 5 minutes and a number of screens may appear on the screen
  8. Click Finish when the Wireless Troubleshooting - Success screen appears 
Using Remote Access

You will need to be on the phone with our help desk to use remote access. Call us on 0800 22 55 90 and when promoted start Remote Access

Common Questions

I have no Run button on the Security Window when I am installing the Broadband Assist. What do I do?

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools menu
  2. Select Internet Options
  3. Click Advanced tab
  4. Scroll down to Security
  5. Select Do not save encrypted pages to disk
  6. Click Apply
  7. Click OK

The Run button should now appear when you re-install Broadband Assist.

If I add an Email Account, will Broadband Assist create the account in the Active or Main Identity?

The new account will be created in the Main Identity.

If I create an Email Account in Outlook and then attempt to set up an alias, is there any warning or disclaimer in Broadband Assist

No. This is something that will be addressed in the future.

My Wireless (Wireless Zero configuration or equivalent in Vista and 7) is disabled? What do I do?

Broadband Assist will enable the Wireless Configuration in all supported versions of Windows.

What will happen if the wireless adaptor/drivers on the computer do not support WPA-PSK or WPA-PSK2?

The security will be dropped to WPA, but never WEP.
